Boerne Luther Cunningham, 86, of Boerne, passed from this life at a local health care facility on Sunday, April 25, 2010.
Born in Round Rock, TX on October 20, 1923, he was the son of William Herbert and Lillie Frances Walden Cunningham.
He was a graduate of Littlefield, TX High School, Class of 1941, where he received Recognition in Vocational Agriculture, awarded by the Texas Association of Future Farmers. He then attended Texas Tech College for a year.
In 1942, Luther enlisted in the US Navy and served as Gunners Mate, 3rd Class, aboard the USS Lexington. He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1945.
Luther married Audrey Spohn on January 4, 1946, in San Diego, CA, and this union would last until her passing on December 25, 2006.
After serving in the Navy, he returned to Littlefield, where he continued to farm. He was involved in the Jaycees.
He worked for Farm Bureau Insurance as an agent, receiving many awards in his field. He then moved to Deming, NM where he became a County Agent, which he did for many years until his retirement in 1989.
In 2004, Luther and Audrey moved to Boerne, TX.
He is predeceased by his wife , his parents and one brother.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his children, Mike Cunningham of Boerne, Debby Cronenberg of Montrose, CO and Wayne Cunningham of Boerne six grandchildren eight great grandchildren four sisters, Edith Cunningham, Lois Smith, Virginia Harris and Nell Swayze and nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
A private graveside service will be held at Ft. San Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
