Kerrville Lewis W. quotBusterquot Matteson, Jr., 84, of Hunt, passed from this life at a local hospital on Thursday morning, August 6, 2009.
Born in Houston on November 24, 1924, he was the son of Lewis W. Matteson, Sr. and Bertha Lillian Hall Matteson.
A graduate of Rice University, he received a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He served in the US Army in the Signal Corp during WWII, stationed on Tinian.
On December 16, 1954, he married Betty I. Dykes in Houston, a union that would last almost 55 years.
Buster was an entrepreneur, owning several businesses, from Plaza Lincoln Mercury in Houston, to Matteson Transformers to Matteson Motorcycle in Kerrville.
He loved music, astronomy and genealogy and was very curious and eager to learn also owning one of the first computers in Houston in the early 1960s.
Buster acquired the pipe organ from the Metropolitan Theater in Houston and fully restored it and placed it in his home.
A member of the Key Club, the Houston Racquet Club and the Sagewood Country Club, he was very involved in his community.
Buster was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Houston and later attended St. Peters Episcopal Church in Kerrville.
He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Debra Jane Matteson in 1993, and 2 sisters, Lillian Jeanette Apple and Sarah Belle Lear.
Those left to cherish and honor his memory are his wife, Betty Matteson of Hunt his children, Sherry Matteson of San Antonio, Lewis W. Matteson III and his wife, Susan, of Snellville, GA and Rick Matteson and his wife, Cyndi, of Houston 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Kerrville Funeral Home on Sunday evening, August 9, 2009 from 47PM with family greeting friends from 67PM.
A Celebration of his life will be held at the St. Peters Episcopal Church, Kerrville, on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 2:00PM. Committal service will follow at Hunt Japonica Cemetery, Hunt, TX.
Floral arrangements are acceptable or monetary donations in his name may be made to the Hill Country Youth Ranch or to St. Peters Episcopal Church, 320 St. Peters St, Kerrville, TX. 78028.
