Kerrville Lawrence B. McKenzie, Sr., 86, of Kerrville and Ft. Stockton, passed from this life at his home in Kerrville on Sunday, January 23, 2011.

Born in Ft. Stockton on May 23, 1924, he was the son of Cleo and Mary Lea Thomson McKenzie.

He served in the US Army.

On November 27, 1947, on the campus of UT, he married the love of his life, Barbara Lee Fox, a union that would last 63 years, until her passing in 2009.

He attended UT and was a graduate of the University of Houston with a BS in Architectural Sciences. He designed and built many homes in the Ft. Stockton area.

Mr. McKenzie was also a wellknown businessman in the Ft. Stockton area, owning a local lumberyard.

He was a rancher in Ft. Stockton and was a member of the TX Sheep and Goat Raisers Association.

Mr. McKenzie is predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara in 2009, and his parents.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his son, Lawrence B. McKenzie, Jr., and his wife, Janice, of Ft. Stockton his daughters, Bonnie Word and her husband, Jim, of Keller, TX and Mary Alice McKenzie Wood of Kerrville 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren his brother, Gregg McKenzie of Ft. Stockton and nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service at East Hill Cemetery, Ft. Stockton at a later date to be announced.

The family suggests that donations in his name be made to VistaCare Hospice.
