KerrvilleLawrence F. Hicks unexpectedly passed away on Friday, February 16. He was 77 years young. Larry and wife, Jane, were residents of Kerrville for the past 17 years, and Texans for the last 32 years. After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1952, Larry began his 23 year navel career. One of his most important contributions to the Navy was serving as the Project Manager for the design of the Nimitz Class Air Craft Carrier. After retiring from the Navy, he began his second career as Vice President in the Civil Construction Group of Brown Root, a large international construction company. Larry retired for the second time and became the Department Head of Marine Engineering at Texas AM Galveston, where teaching became his new love. The Texas Hill Country was the next and final stop in the moving history of Larry and Jane. Kerrville was the perfect fix for Larrys addiction to golf, a launching pad for visiting kids and grandkids, and his new career in unpaid gardening.Larry leaves his wife Jane of 55 years, his daughters Ann of San Diego, CA and Betsy of The Woodlands, TX his sons Larry of Encinitas, CA and Andrew of Boerne, TX. They were blessed with nine grandchildren: Kelsey, Todd, Jessica, Jake, Maggie, Patrick, Tyler, Kate, and Joseph.Memorial services will be at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Wednesday, February 21 at 10:30AM, with a reception to follow at Tucker Hall. Donations in his name can be made to the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, supporting the National Museum of the Pacific War, in Fredericksburg.
