Kerrville On Sunday, August 30, 2009, Lawrence Preston Fessler passed from this life at Edgewater Care Center where he had been a resident since August 6, 2003. He was born on February 24, 1941, in Devine, Texas.
Lawrence spent most of his youth living in Covington, KY, graduating from Holmes High School. He always owned a touring style motorcycle, even during high school.
After enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1961, he became a Specialist in Gun Mechanics and served as an instructor in arms training and writing formats for instructors in training. He served in Wiesbaden, Germany for three years, and also served in other service locations such as Gunter Air Force Base, Gunter, AL, Amarillo, TX, and Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.
While at Lackland Air Force Base, he was part of the mobile strike force that traveled around the country serving as a gunsmith and instructor for the Air Force Marksmanship teams. Also, while stationed at Lackland, he was an armorer and maintenance manager for the Olympic tryout activities.
Lawrence continued serving the military as a arms consultant at ESTEX Ordinance Depot in Seguin, TX until 1994. He was active as a gunsmith and gun collector until ill health forced retirement in 1996.
Mr. Fessler never married and left no descendants.
Graveside Services with military honors will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
