Laverne Meier

Kerrville Laverne Withey Meier was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at age 104, shortly after being admitted to Petersen Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Meier was born on May 5, 1906, in Detroit Michigan, the son of Albert and Cora Withey Meier.

The first of 3 children, he grew up working in his familys pharmacy business. As an adult he gravitated to writing copy for several wellknown advertising agencies. He also worked as a regional sales representative for the Brown Shoe Co. before opening and managing his own advertising agency.

Mr. Meier was too old for military service during World War II. So, he closed his ad agency to work in a machinegun factory in Plymouth, Michigan, restarting his agency after the war ended. He was an avid hunter, shooter, and entertaining raconteur. His memory and recounting of events from Woodrow Wilsons presidency onward were always highly interesting.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Laura. Mrs. Meier was an accomplished woman in her own right, being trained and performing as, a concert pianist as well as being a highly regarded music teacher.

His father, Albert S. Meier and mother, Cora Withey, also preceded him in death as did his sister, Marge Nelson and brother, Clifton Meier.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter Corina Sakurada of the home, two grandchildren, Mark Sakurada and his family, and Lisa Cash and her family, along with six greatgrandchildren.

During his last few months Mr. Meier was greatly assisted by the folks of VistaCare Hospice.

Mr. Meier was a lifelong Presbyterian who had found a quotvery comfortable church homequot, his words, at First Presbyterian Church of Ingram. Services will be held at the church on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 10:30 am. First Presbyterian Church of Ingram is located on Hwy. , across from the Hill Country Arts Foundation Pointe Theatre. Burial will be in a private ceremony in Agawam, Massachusetts, where Mr. and Mrs. Meier lived for many years before retiring.
