Hunt Captain Larry Lee Naylor, Special Forces, Ret., 70, joined his mother and father on Thursday, June 17, 2010.

Born March 14, 1940 in Corning, NY, he was the son of Harry E. and Frances J. McGhee Naylor. He was educated in the Elmira, NY public schools, received his Bachelors degree from Genesceo NY University, his Masters and PhD from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.

Larry did socialcultural fieldwork in Papua, New Guinea and Ecuador. He provided Pipeline Impact studies as Professor of Anthropology at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, then started and grew the Department of Anthropology at the University of North Texas, Denton from 1978 until he retired in May of 2004. He served as Chairman of the Anthropology Department for 14 years. Larry has published six books and a study guide and developed many on line courses over his career. He did all things well.

He served his country in the US Army as a paratrooper with the Special Forces Unit, stationed at Ft. Knox, KY from November 1963 to May of 1966, during the Vietnam Conflict.

Larry loved to serve the communities he lived in, and was the Mayor of Krugerville, TX. He was known for his talent making turquoise and silver jewelry, which some of his pieces can be found at Texas, Etc, in Kerrville.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 12 years, Diane Bennet Naylor of Hunt his daughter, Kelley L. Naylor his sister and her husband, Marlyn Kay Hubbard and Tom Hubbard his former wife, Sharon L. Van Derveer many nieces and nephews and his wifes children and grandchildren.

Larry was loved by all of these families. He will be greatly missed by his earthly family.

There will be no visitation.

A Celebration of his life will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home, main chapel, of Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 2:00PM.

The family suggest and encourage that memorial donations in his name be sent to the Larry L. Naylor Anthropology Student Scholarship, Department of Anthropology, 1155 Union Circle, 310409, Denton, TX 762035017.
