Center Point Larry Layne Laws, 61, passed away on January 5, 2009 at his home in Center Point, Texas.nbspBorn January 8, 1947 in Houston, Texas, he moved to Corpus Christi as a child with his parents and sister.nbspLarry graduated from W. B. Ray High School in 1965 and The Wharton School of Finance at University of Pennsylvania in 1969.nbsp Larry enjoyed a varied business career but principally served as a stockbroker and investment advisor beginning with Bache Securities in Dallas and ultimately being an independent advisor in Kerrville, Texas.nbspLarry was a great guy.nbsp An Eagle Scout who was voted as Most Likely to Succeed, Larry is credited with bringing surfing to Texas in the early 1960rsquos.nbsp He brought surfboards from Hawaii and established a rental business in Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, Galveston and South Padre Island, all as a teenager.nbsp His friends would often observe that they had surfer knots on their knees from paddling on their surfboards but that Larry had knots on his fingers from counting his money.nbsp nbspLarry was a charter member of Impact Christian Fellowship in Kerrville.nbsp He had a heart full of compassion and was so proud of his involvement in Christian Women Job Core of Kerr County. Larry was a good friend to many and loved his church.nbspLarry was a voracious reader and read at least one book a week.nbsp He would fill a bookcase each year with interesting books.nbsp He also used to enjoy playing the piano.nbspLarry was a wonderful brother to his only sister, Linda Pate and a loving uncle to her three sons, RC, Gardner amp Oscar.nbsp Larryrsquos stepson Daniel Rees Laws predeceased him in 1991.nbspLarry is survived by his mother, Ruth Cox Mizell of Alexandria, Virginia his father Cecil Laws of Kerrville, Texas and his sister, Linda Laws Pate and her husband Judge Robert C. Pate of Corpus Christi, Texas and their three sons, R.C., Gardner, and Oscar.nbspA memorial service will be at Impact Christian Fellowship in Kerrville Friday, January 9, 2009 at 1:00.nbsp
