Kerrville Kenneth M. Thomson, 85, of Kerrville, passed from this life into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior at a local hospital at 9:12 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010.
Born in League City, TX on November 18, 1925, he was the son of James and Pearl Mitchell Thomson. An All American athlete, playing all sports, he graduated from League City High School at the age of 16.
After studying veterinary medicine at Texas AM for 2 years, where he attended on a football scholarship, he joined the US Navy during WWII. In the Navy, he served as a pilot and noncommissioned officer for 3 years guarding the Panama Canal.
On June 8, 1946, in Hackensack, NJ, he married Louise Kerr, the love of his life that he met in Central Park, NYC, at the only USO dance he ever attended. This was also the only dance she ever helped host.
After serving, he attended the University of Houston for a year, studying engineering, before starting his career with JohnsManville, where he retired after 35 years as a Regional Sales Manager.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Thomson was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason, always maintaining his membership at the League City Lodge.
A faithful Christian, he was a 26 year member and ordained Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Ingram. He also served as head of the building committee when they were building their new church and for many years was on the Board of Directors of the Hill Country Cowboy Camp Meeting.
More than anything he loved being on the water and was an avid boater, fisherman and golfer. For many years he was a member of the Greenwood Forest Golf Association. He served in many capacities on the board of that organization, and is one of their past Presidents.
Ken was predeceased by his parents and 3 brothers, Robert H. Thomson, Richard J. Thomson USN, Pearl Harbor, and Jimmy Thomson.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Louise Kerr Thomson of Kerrville his children, Richard K. Thomson and wife, Peggy, of Erie, PA Daniel J. Thomson and wife, Carol, of Houston, TX Kathleen L. Diedrich of Austin, TX Janet L. Jackson and husband, Bill, of Kerrville, TX 10 grandchildren 5 greatgrandchildren his sister Betty K. Perkins of Beeville, TX his brother John W. Thomson and wife, Gwen, of Prescott, AZ and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
ation will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 6:008:00 PM.
A Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of his Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Ingram, corner of Hwy. and Webb Ave., Ingram, TX on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ray Tear officiating. A committal service will follow at Garden of Memories, Kerrville at 11:45 a.m.
