Kenneth H. Ken Griffin of Hunt, Texas, formerly a long time resident of Midland, TX passed away Monday, December 29, 2003 in a Midland Hospital.Ken was born on June 27, 1925 in Hillsboro, Texas. He was the son of Herschel and Helen Griffin. Ken spent his boyhood in Athens, Texas and was involved in athletics and the Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Athens High School in 1942 and attended Southern Methodist University before entering the US Army Air Corps in 1943. Ken received a commission as a 2nd Lt. and his pilot wings in 1944, and served as a B17 pilot until discharged from the Army in 1945.Ken graduated from Texas Christian University in 1948 with a degree in business administration and joined Texaco as a Landman. In 1949 he and Geraldine Redmond were married in Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Midland. In 1967, after a long career with Texaco, Ken established an independent oil and gas company which he operated until the time of his death.Ken was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Midland and was very active in little League Baseball and the Girl Scouts. He was a certified Petroleum Landman, a member of the American Association of Landmen, and a past president of the Permian Basin Landmens Association.Ken is survived by his wife of 54 years, Geri, daughter, Jan Anderson and husband Jim of Corpus Christi, two brothers, Larry and Gerry Griffin of Hunt, Texas, nine grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Mike and Randy.Arrangements are under the direction and care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
