Karolyn Joy Cook, 80, passed from this life to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Mountain Villa Care Center in Kerrville, Texas. Karolyn was born on April 15, 1937 in Houston, Texas to the late Arthur and Edna Reynolds.
Growing up in Houston, Texas, Karolyn graduated from San Jacinto high school and attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. During her senior year at Baylor Karolyn met the love of her life Jack Royce Cook on a blind double date with her roommate. Karolyn graduated from Baylor with a degree in Elementary Education. Karolyn started her teaching career in Garland, TX teaching 1st grade.
Karolyn and Jack were engaged in October of 1959 and married on December 20th of 1959. Karolyn completed her first year of teaching in Garland while Jack set up house in Dublin Texas where he was an Ag. teacher. Karolyn moved to Dublin in May of 1960 and they remained a loving couple up until his time of passing on September of 2015. Together they raised two sons, John, born in 1961 and Danny, born in 1963. The family lived and made their home in Red Oak, Texas. Karolyn taught in Lancaster, TX and Red Oak, Texas when she was not busy caring for Danny who was born with severe kidney birth defects. They were both very active members of 1st Baptist Church of Red Oak. They moved to Kerrville, Texas upon retirement from education.
Karolyn loved working with children and teaching them about Jesus. She was a very active teacher with Child Evangelism Fellowship teaching many 5-day clubs and led the children's sermon at Southern Oaks Baptist Church for many years. Karolyn loved the Lord and has had a personal relationship with Jesus for almost all of life. She was at peace and ready to go home to be with Jesus at the time of her passing.
Those who passed before Karolyn were her husband of 55 years Jack Cook; her son, Danny Cook; loving parents A.W. and Edna Reynolds; in-laws, AB and Edna Cook; brother-in-Law, Durl Cook; sisters-in-Law, Bonnie Wyrick and Reba Barnard; and her granddaughter, Jessica Cook.
Those left to honor her memory are her sister Peggy Reynolds; son, John Cook and wife Donna; grandsons, William Jackson Cook and Josh Cook and wife Becca and their daughter Anna, along with many friends and neighbors, church family who will miss her dearly.
A Visitation and a time of reflection will be from 6-8 PM, Friday, August 18, 2017, at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028. and additionally from 10:00-10:50 on Saturday, August 19th just before the funeral services which will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 19, 2017, in the sanctuary of Southern Oaks Baptist Church, 122 Valley View Drive, Kerrville, Texas 78028 with the Pastor Joe Taylor and Rev. Frankie Enloe officiating.
Interment will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, August 20th, 2017 at Red Oak Cemetery, Red Oak, Texas with The Rev. Bruch Hall and his wife Rebecca officiating. A short viewing will be held before the graveside services on Sunday.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family has expressed a desire for memorial contributions to be made in her honor to the Southern Oaks Baptist Church,
