In Loving Memory of Karen Ranee Travis (March 16, 1948 – November 19, 2024)
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved companion, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Karen Ranee Travis, at the age of 76. She left us peacefully on November 19, 2024.
Born on March 16, 1948, in Helper, Utah, Karen lived in the hill country since the 1980s and made her home here. She was a woman whose kindness, wisdom, and love knew no bounds. A devoted, caring individual, she was a loving wife to Bobby Haines, and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her presence brought joy and warmth to all who knew her. Her heart was as big as her family, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Karen was nurturing and selfless, always putting others before herself. She had a knack for making everyone feel special—whether through her infectious laughter, her thoughtful advice, or her delicious home-cooked meals. Her home was always open, her arms always welcoming, and her heart always ready to listen.
As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she was the matriarch of our family, a constant source of strength and love. She took immense pride in watching her children and grandchildren grow, and her legacy lives on in each of us. Her guidance and love have shaped us, and her memory will live on within us.
Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Col. John Travis; her parents, Dale and Marie Helm; her brothers; as well as her uncles and aunts. She is survived by Bobby Haines; daughters Denise James and her husband Brian James, and Rene’ Ebert and her husband David Ebert; her grandchildren Ashton Pierz, Stephanie Ames, Dale Pierz, Kyle James, Ryan James, and Kiera James; and her great-grandchildren Braxton Ames and Bellamie Ames. She also leaves behind countless other family members and friends whose lives she touched.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Kerrville Funeral Home.
Though she may no longer walk among us, her love and spirit will forever be with us. We are comforted knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
Rest in peace, Mom. You will always be in our hearts.
