Judith Wilson

Judith Ellen Kunkel Wilson, age 74, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Kerrville, Texas. Judith was born on January 23, 1950 in Houston, Texas, to loving parents, John Kunkel and Beverly Danford Kunkel.

Judi grew up in Houston and was an avid student in high school. She was on the cheerleading squad while keeping up with her studies; graduating as the Valedictorian. Judi went on to attend Delmar College in Corpus Christi; after which she traveled extensively throughout Europe, Italy, France and Greece. Judi was a pioneer for women’s surfing; winning the Texas State Surfing Championship in 1968 and 1969. She was also named the Texas State Champion in 1969 for the 3rd annual Pepsi State Championship. Judy went on to tour the U.S., giving surfing performances. Judi loved to stay active with fitness and running in many half marathons. She also enjoyed management training at Steak & Alls Restaurant; going on to open her own catering business. Judi also enjoyed being a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. Judi met and married the love of her life; Gerald R. Wilson in 1976 in Ketchum, Idaho. They remained each other’s best friend and soul mates for 48 wonderful years. Judi experienced continued physical challenges as a result of a brain hemorrhage 38 years ago. She met these challenges head on and with amazing strength and courage. Her husband was always by her side offering support and encouragement. Judy loved her family dearly and assumed the role of sending birthday cards on everyone’s special day; to ensure they knew how much she cared. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Kunkel and Beverly Danford Kunkel.

Judi is survived by her loving husband, Gerald R. Wilson; son, Tyler Gunn Wilson and wife Kristin; granddaughter, Tinsley Jude Wilson, lovingly named after Judi; sister, Jeanine Capeheart and husband John; and many devoted nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Peterson Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Judi and the rest of the family.

Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Kerrville Funeral Home. (830) 895-5111
