Joyce Mahone

KERRVILLE Joyce Marie Lawson Mahone, 76, passed away at her home in Kerrville on Thursday January 2, 2014 after a brief illness. Joyce was born in Lubbock, Texas on February 11, 1937 to Weldon Lawson and Tillie Becker Lawson.

The family moved to Seguin, Texas which was home to Joyce until her marriage to Robert Bob Mahone, Jr. in 1962. She was a popular and accomplished student at both Seguin High School and at Texas Womans University where she earned bachelors and masters degrees in physical education and recreation. After her marriage, she and Bob lived in Houston, Seguin, New Mexico, and El Paso before retiring to Kerrville in 2000.

Joyce loved the outdoors and was active though out her life she especially enjoyed tennis and gardening. She was a dear and true friend and her memory will be cherished by many, especially the women from her childhood Girl Scout troop and friends from the Texas Womans University class of 59 who remained an important part of her life until her death.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Bob Mahone, her brother, Nathan Lawson, and her parents, Weldon and Tillie Lawson.

Joyce is survived by her three children: son, Mike Mahone wife Mary, daughter, Kathy Masters husband Morris, son, Robert Mahone wife Melissa and sisterinlaw, Janice Jackson. She is also survived by seven grandchildren including Robert Mahone III, Kelly Mahone, Michael Mahone, Abbey Masters, Josh Reams, Shane Mahone, and Krissie Mahone as well as greatgranddaughters Parker Mahone and Charlotte Mahone.

A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Seguin, Texas at 11 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the TWU 1959 Class Endowed Scholarship Fund https:pof.twu.edu, the Tierra Linda Ranch Garden Club or Peterson Hospice in Kerrville, Texas.
