Joseph Huigens

Joseph Joe Anthony Huigens, 86, of Kerrville, TX passed from this life on May 22, 2013 at a care facility in Comfort, TX.

Joe was born February 12, 1927 in Rushville, NE to Joseph Andrew and Mary Julia Kain Huigens. He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Ogden on September 7, 1950 in Rushville. He worked as a technician for Northwestern Bell in Rapid City, SD from 19511982, and Golden West Telcom in Wall, SD from 19821987. In Rapid City, Joe was a member of the Telco Credit Union Board of Directors, Telephone Pioneers, and Emanuel Episcopal Church. After retirement, he and Shirley moved to Kerrville where they attended St. Peters Episcopal Church. In retirement, Joe spent much of his time in his shop where he enjoyed woodworking.

He is preceded in death by his parents brothers, Arnold and Lawrence and sisters, Rita, Frances, and Berneice.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Ann Huigens three sons, Kevin Huigens and wife Anne Marie Crowe of Berwyn, IL, Kyron Huigens and wife Shelly Wierman of CrotonOnHudson, NY, and Ross Huigens of Kerrville nine grandchildren, Emily and husband Ian, Andrew, Brooke, Derek, Austen, Jessica, Audrey, Olivia, Paul and wife Karen four greatgrandchildren, Natalie, Charlie, Isabella, and Max many nieces and nephews, along with a host of friends and other relatives.

A Eucharistic Celebration will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, May 27, 2013 at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Kerrville with Rev. Stockton Williams and Rev. Tom Murray officiating.

The family would like to thank Trinity Mission Health and Rehab and Hill Country Hospice for their loving care and support.
