Kerrville Lt. Col. John W. Wright U S Army Ret. died on March 28, 2009 at age 93 in Kerrville.nbsp John was born on November 5, 1915 in Evansville, Indiana to Benjamin B. and Christiana Yokel Wright.nbspHe graduated from Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering with honors in Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, and Scabbard and Blade.nbsp He was also a member of Acacia Fraternity.nbsp Upon graduation, he worked for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company.nbsp He married Beatrice Wooden on October 19, 1940 in Flint, Michigan.nbsp During World War II he served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps, running communication lines for the advancing troops in Europe, and was on a Liberty ship in the Pacific Ocean when the war ended.nbsp He served in the Army Reserves until 1974.nbspAfter the war he resumed his job with the telephone company, which took him to Port Huron, Michigan from 19481953 where he served two terms on the school board.nbsp After moving to Mount Clemens, Michigan he served on the town planning commission and the Grace Episcopal Church vestry for many years.nbspnbspnbspUpon retiring from Michigan Bell in 1973 as a plant manager, John and Bea moved to Kerrville, attracted by the friendly people, mild climate and beautiful countryside.nbsp They were avid Airstreamers, doing an almost yearly circuit to the Rockies, the Midwest, and the Northeast, particularly Vermont and the Maritime Provinces.nbsp They also made three trips to Alaska and several to Big Bend and the Rio Grande Valley.nbsp They enjoyed photography and their memberships in St. Peters Church and the Hill Country Unit of the Airstream Club, WBCCI.nbsp They enjoyed 32 active years together in Kerrville before John was diagnosed with Alzheimers and they moved to assisted living.nbsp Bea, the true love of his life, died in May 2007 after almost 67 years of marriage.nbspJohn is survived by:nbsp his children, Anne Wright Wilson and David J. Wright four grandchildren: Julie and Jonathan Wilson and Amy and Benjamin Wright and one great grandchild, Colin Wright Foster.nbspA Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM, Thursday, April 2, 2009 in the sanctuary of St. Peterrsquos Episcopal Church, Kerrville, Texas.nbspIn lieu of floral tributes, memorials can be made to the St. Peterrsquos Episcopal Church Building Fund or to the Kerrville Arts and Culture Center.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.nbsp 830 8955111
