John H. Snellgrove, 92, of Kerrville, Texas, passed from this life on Monday, October 13, 2014 at a local care facility.

John was born July 2, 1922 in Elgin, IL to Neal and Leta Brown Snellgrove. He lived in Elgin until after high school. He served active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII for four and a half years. He fought in several battles including Guadalcanal where he received a battle field commission and later served in the reserves until 1963. After serving in the military, he was employed as a sales manager for Peter Hersey Water Meters in Massachusetts but was transferred all over the US during his career. He retired at the age of 55 in the Seattle, Washington area.

John loved to travel to Europe and Australia, and was an accomplished writer. The highlight of his life occurred in recent years, when he was chosen to go on the honor flight to Washington D.C. when they honored the WWII veterans. After the death of his first wife, Dorothy Snellgrove, he moved to Kerrville where he married Elaine Wiltshire on November 16, 1996.

John is preceded in death by his first wife parents brother, William Snellgrove and stepson, Brad Wiltshire.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his loving wife on 18 years, Elaine Snellgrove sons, Michael Snellgrove and wife Lynn Paul Snellgrove and wife Margaret Roman stepdaughter, Diana Vaughan and several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. Pauls Untited Methodist Church in Kerrville, Texas.
