Kerrville John Shelby Putnam, Jr. 70, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2007 in Kerrville, Texas at a local hospital. Jack, was born in East Saint Louis, Illinois on May 7, 1937 to John Shelby Putnam, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Hendricks Putnam. His family moved to Texas City, Texas in 1947. Jack graduated from Texas City High School in 1955. He attended Texas A M University, and completed his formal education at Austin College, Sherman, Texas where he was a founding member of the service fraternity Chi Delta Eta.Jacks early career in sales of pesticide chemicals took him to Ohio, Michigan and Virginia. He returned to Texas where he established a pest control business in Austin, Texas. He was active in the Texas Pest Control Association and held several offices in the organization over the course of his career.Jack was a member of the Boy Scouts and was a leader and instructor. He carried his love of the outdoors throughout his life. He loved hunting, fishing, and looking for the perfect knife. He collected handcrafted knives and was respected by his many friends for his knowledge on the subject.Jacks family and friends loved him for his honesty, independence, generosity, and truthfulness in business and in all areas of his life. He filled a room with his presence and humor. As a brother, son, and uncle, he gave good advice when asked, was completely reliable and truthful. His love and support of his family was evident throughout his life.Jack is survived by his sister, Jane Brandon and husband Richard of Kerrville, Texas niece, Cynthia Dyer, husband Randy, and great nephew Travis Knudson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and nephew and namesake, John Brandon of Alvin, Texas.Jacks ashes will be scattered in the hill country as he requested. Donations to the American Heart Association in Jacks memory are welcomed.
