John Martin


KERRVILLE John Elmore Martin passed away October 25, 2012 at his home.

He was born in Houston, Texas on November 2, 1929 to John Vincent Martin and Elsie Leadbetter Martin. In 1948, John graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, and then attended the University of Texas and the University of Houston. He served in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California from 19511953.

He married Peggy Martin in 1955, and lived in Sugarland, Texas for five years, where he raised chickens for egg production on a farm. He was later employed at Texcrete, Clarke and Courts, Texas Industries, and Stationers, Inc. in sales. They lived in Houston until 2001, when they moved to Kerrville to be closer to family.

John will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his love of old movies and appreciation of music.

He is survived by his son David Martin and wife, Cathy grandsons, Michael and Dustin Martin, all of Kerrville sister, Ann Phenicie, and many nephews and nieces.

John was predeceased by his wife, Peggy parents, John Vincent and Elsie Martin sister, Elsie Martin Parker and his son, Vince Martin.

Special thanks go to the caregivers and neighbors, who were with John, Peggy, and the family in his last few years. They provided unwavering support and compassion, and their presence was greatly appreciated by the family.

In lieu of floral arrangements, donations may be made in Johns name to the charity of ones choice.

Local ation will be held from 5 7 PM, Friday, October 26, 2012 at Kerrville Funeral Home. ation will be held from 1 2 PM, with Funeral Services following at 2 PM in the Chapel at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Interment will follow.
