Kerrville ndash John Franklin Frank Downs, 89, of Kerrville, passed from this life at a local health care facility on Saturday morning, March 14, 2009.nbspBorn in San Antonio, TX on May 27, 1919, he was the son of George M. and Mary Nuckolls Downs.nbsp He had been a resident of Kerrville for the past 20 years, coming here from Pecos, TX.nbspMr. Downs served in the Air Force during World War II, was a business owner, animal lover, humanitarian, a Christian, loving husband, father and a grandfather Mr. Downs will be missed by many.nbspIn Pecos, TX, Mr. Downs was a mechanic and owned his own garage.nbspOn October 8, 1942, he married Elouise Stidham, and this union lasted over 66 years.nbspnbspnbspHe was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and had served as a deacon in Pecos, TX, and in his retirement to Kerrville in 1989, continued his strong Christian faith, becoming a member of the Riverside Church of Christ.nbspThose left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Elouise Stidham Downs of Kerrville a daughter, Sharon Downs Nelson of Kerrville 4 grandchildren, Matt Woodcock, Doug Woodcock, Amy Nelson and Kelly Nelson a brotherinlaw, O.V. Stidham of Kerrville and 14 nieces and nephews.nbspThere is no visitation.nbspA celebration of his life will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 2:00PM.nbspIn lieu of floral arrangements, the family asks that monetary donations in his name be made to the Riverside Church of Christ Building Fund, or to VistaCare Hospice.nbspnbsp
