KERRVILLE - John Joseph Callahan, 89, of Kerrville, TX passed from this life on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at his residence. He was born on April 10, 1925 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

John attended school in the Cambridge area until he enlisted in the United States Navy. After his service to his county ended in the Navy, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines. He truly loved the sea as was shown by the number of years he spent there during his lifetime.

As a very private person, John had a huge heart and was extremely loyal. He had many friends from the veteran's organizations, as well as the Veterans Affairs. John loved life and lived it to its fullest. What you saw was what you got! He will truly be missed.

John leaves behind two sons, Robert Knapik and Edward D Callahan; a daughter, Lorene Francis Callahan Pirello; two grandsons, Guy Joseph Pirello II, and Nicholas Alexander Pirello; a great granddaughter, Samantha Adele Pirello, along with many loving friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028. John will be laid to rest, receiving Navy Honors, with his military family at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
