Joan Reuther

KERRVILLE - Joan Reuther nee Blomfield, 69, of Kerrville, TX passed from this life on August 14, 2015 at a local care facility in Kerrville, TX. Joan was born April 7, 1946 in Lautoka, Fiji Islands to Ernest Clyde and Betty Blomfield, she had as she used to say, one of the most beautiful childhoods one can image.

With her parents managing sugar plantations, the biggest in the southern hemisphere, she already was exposed to traveling between the many islands in Fiji. After attending boarding schools in Fiji and New Zealand, she decided to travel to Europe and celebrate her 21st birthday in London. Traveling through Europe she finally arrived in Greece, where she met her future husband on her arrival. Shortly thereafter, they married in the private Chapel of the Prince of Liechtenstein with their legal wedding to follow in Switzerland, where her future husband was a resident. In 1969, she entered the United States in Honolulu, Hawaii on her way to Houston, Texas. In Houston, she attended the University of Houston and thereafter received training at the New York School of Interior Design in New York.

She was a member of the Water Color Society and also a docent at the Sam Houston Park. Joan was a very proud member of the Texas Children's Hospital Auxiliary, where she served her term as Vice President, before moving to La Crosse, Wisconsin. La Crosse became the place of her first business in Interior design for commercial and residential. She received commendation by the Governor of Wisconsin as one of the most successful small businesses in the state.

While living on Grosse Pointe Farms in Michigan, she moved to Moscow, Russia before relocating to the Island of Antigua in the Caribbean. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved back to the Texas Hill Country where Joan was a proud member and volunteer of the Peterson Hospice Group.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her husband, Hans Reuther of Kerrville; nephew, John Hulks of Sidney,Australia and niece, Valerie Burland of Sydney, Australia.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in her honor to the charity of one's choice.
