Jewel Childs

Jewel H. Childs, 98, of Kerrville, TX passed away peacefully on October 29, 2004 at a local care facility.Mrs. Childs was born April 29, 1906 to William and Mary Carreker Herin in Waxahachie, TX. She moved from Corpus Christi to Kerrville in September of 1947. She owned and operated the Del Norte Motel from 1947 to the mid 1970s. She was very active in the community in both Kerrville and Corpus Christi. She was a member of the Business and Professional Womens Club, Texas Motel Associations, and a charter member of the Kerrville Garden Club, and past president of the Garden Club in Corpus Christi. While she was able she enjoyed oil painting and was a member of the Kerrville Art Guild. She was a supporter of the Kerr County Day Care Center, Schreiner College, and the Hill Country Youth Ranch. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kerrville. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, George, J.W., Jesse and Charles Herin sisters, Mattie Conroy, Annie Lee Cardwell, Irene Coulter, and Clara Mae Schmidt.She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:00AM, Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at the Kerrville Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00PM, in Glendale Cemetery in Goliad, TX. ation will be 57:00PM, Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at the Kerrville Funeral Home.
