He cherished his 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.nbspnbspnbspnbspnbspJerry is survived by his brother, Ben Lents of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, cousins in Kentucky and many wonderful friends who enriched his life greatly.nbspnbspnbspnbspnbspJerry was born in Murray, Kentucky on November 11, 1933 to Holland and Elsie Lents. He was so fond of his childhood memories. The carefree boyhood adventures with Ben, cousins and buddies were retold with vivid detail. Following two years of college at Wayne State University, Jerry began his Air Force career as an RF101 pilot and he met his friend and wife, Patricia. He is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War earning an Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.nbspnbspnbspnbspnbspPrior to his military retirement, Jerry served as advisor to the Kentucky Air National Guard and attended college at Murray State University. He completed his flying career as an instructor pilot at Doss Aviation in Hondo, Texas.nbspnbspnbspnbspnbspHe enjoyed his retirement years traveling with Mickey, fishing and planning the next trip to visit grandchildren. What we would give to hear just one more of his memorable stories of his childhood, flying and travels. Never idle, Jerry had an unquenchable thirst for learning. He generously gave so much of himself through his various interests. His bounty of fresh garden vegetables, fish, pecans, wood carvings, wine, model airplanes, books, movies, music, photos and homemade ice cream are forever in our hearts.nbspnbspnbspnbspnbspJerry was so many things to all of us: A loving father and grandfather, committed friend and devoted University of Kentucky Wildcat fan. Most notable was his humility in his service to the country and his profound love for his wife.nbspnbspnbspnbspnbspA private family memorial service was held on Sunday December 24, 2006 and an internment will be held at a later date in Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerrys memory may be made to the St. Labre Indian School, P.O. Box 216, Ashland, Montana 59004.
