Kerrville Dr. James M quotJimquot Williams, 76, passed from this life on January 24, 2011, following a longterm illness.
Born in Abilene, TX on February 19, 1934, he was the son of Marvin and Violet Ohnemus Williams.
Jim left his hometown of Ballinger, TX in 1951 to attend Texas Technological College and it is here that he met his future wife, Dixie, in the quotGoin Band from Raider Landquot.
He earned 3 degrees from TTU. Jim was a band or for 11 years in West Texas, and then served in public school administration for 6 more years, before beginning his 24 year career in college administration at Vernon College and Grayson College in the Sherman and Denison area. He retired as President of the colleges.
Jim was proud to be an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver award when he served on the Texoma Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America. Active in community leadership, Dr. Williams was, at times, a member of both Lions and Rotary Clubs. He served as chairman of the United Way Drive in Denison, Chairman of the Bicentennial celebration of Wilbarger County, received Outstanding Citizen from the City of Vernon and was past President of Sherman Chamber of Commerce.
Happily involved in his church homes, Jim served as choir or in Big Lake,, Lamesa, Dalhart, Vernon and Memphis, TX and was a Deacon Elder and Trustee in various Presbyterian Churches.
A lifelong singer, Jim also sang in the sanctuary choir at First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, and the Barber Shop Choir of Kerrville.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville.
He is predeceased by his father, Marvin Williams.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Dixie D. McWilliams Williams of Kerrville his daughters, Lela Russell and her husband, Ed, of Breckenridge, TX, Diana Deaton and her husband, Will, of Corpus Christi and Debbie Durham and her husband, Rodney, of Victoria his mother, Violet Ohnemus Williams of Kerrville his sister, Klen Wimberley of Kerrville 8 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
A celebration of his life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 2:00PM with Rev. Rob Lohmeyer and Dr. Rev. John Wurster, coofficiating.
The family suggests that donations in his name be made to Habitat for Humanity or the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Kerrville.
