James Roberson

KERRVILLE James Jim Alfred Roberson Robo, 74, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, December 17, 2012 at a local hospital in Kerrville Texas.

Jim was born on July 24, 1938 in North Wilkesboro, NC and three days later was adopted by Austin Bennie Roberson and Kathleen Reynolds Roberson. He grew up and attended high school in North Wilkesboro then moved to Boone, NC to begin his higher education at Appalachian State University. He moved to Greensboro, NC to finish his education and there met Mary Ann Jones. On April 22, 1961 they began their 51 year marriage together.

After graduating from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, Jim was employed for 25 years at North Carolina National Bank as a trust officer, loan officer, and eventually branch manager in Boone, NC. During these years he attended banking schools in Charlotte, NC, Chapel Hill, NC, and Chicago, IL.

While working at NCNB, he became a member of the Greensboro Junior Chamber of Commerce, the United Fund, Rotary, Kiwanis, and was President of Toastmasters. He served his country honorably for 8 years in the US Army National Guard.

The Roberson family moved from North Carolina to Corpus Christi, TX where Jim worked for Parkdale Bank, Frost Bank, and Texas Commerce Bank. In 1989, they moved to Kerrville, TX where he was President of the Bank of Kerrville. After leaving the banking industry, Jim worked as a financial officer and salesman for National Car Sales in Kerrville as well.

Jim was an avid golfer, a fan of football and NASCAR. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his friends. In Kerrville, he was a member of American Legion Post 208, Elks Lodge 2081, Masonic Lodge 697, and was a past member of Noon Rotary. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, TX.

Jim was a fun and lovable husband, father, grandfather, and friend who never met a stranger and had a generous spirit.

He is preceded in death by his beloved adopted parents, Kathleen and Bennie Roberson.

Those left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Ann Roberson two daughters, Kristie Ann Shackelford and husband Richard of Waco, TX and Heather Elizabeth Cunningham and husband Jeff of Kerrville, TX his adored grandchildren Katy and Jerry Shackelford and Beth and Lucy Cunningham.

Memorial Services for Jim will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, December 22, 2012 in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Lohmeyer officiating. He will be laid to rest at a later date.

In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests that memorials be made to the local service organization of ones choice.
