Kerrville James Monroe Jim McCarter of Kerrville, TX, passed away at the age of 82 on December 30, 2009.

Born on July 20, 1927 in Ravenna, TX, he was the youngest son of Charlie and Mary Howland McCarter.

Jim married the former Betty Campbell of Bonham, TX on December 15, 1949 in Bonham.

He attended school in Ravenna and Bonham, TX. Jim joined the Merchant Marines on his seventeenth birthday during World War II.

In 1952 he was raised to a Master Mason in the Handley Blue Lodge Number 1140 in Fort Worth and later went on to Chapter and Council, Fort Worth Commandry Knights Templar and Eye Foundation. Also, he was a member of Moslah Shrine Temple of Fort Worth working with the Circus Committee and other Shrine organizations. He received a fiftyyear pin for his active service with the Masons.

Jim was employed by Texas Electric Service Company in the Fort Worth Transmission Department for forty years.

He was a member of Handley Baptist Church for forty years and was a member of the choir.

Jim volunteered many hours coaching baseball and working with the Handley Meadowbrook Little League in Fort Worth. In addition, he volunteered at voting sites for many years during state and national elections.

After their retirement, Jim and Betty moved to Kerrville in 1991. Jim enjoyed attending all his grandchildrens sports and school activities. He continued to be an active fan of Tivy High School athletics until his death.

As a member of Trinity Baptist Church, he sang in the Sanctuary and Prime Time Choirs. He traveled with several groups from the church on many mission trips to Mexico. He once drove with friends from a church in Colorado all the way to Guatamala to help restore an orphanage.

An Irishman, he loved St. Patricks Day and the music that accompanied it, and was able to visit Ireland in 1986 and 1991.

Survived by his wife Betty of Kerrville, his son Larry and wife Kristy of Charlotte, NC, and grandchildren Taylor McCarter Johnson and husband Chris of Lewisville, TX, Matt McCarter of Kingman, AZ, and Craig McCarter of Charlotte, NC., a son Chuck McCarter of Kerrville, and grandchildren Kelly McCarter of Weatherford, TX, Jake McCarter of Kerrville, and two great grandchildren, Sebashtian and Piper Johnson of Lewisville, and daughterinlaw Jana McCarter of Kerrville.

Other survivors include his sister Janie Eller of Sherman, TX, and sisterinlaw, Mickey McCarter Miller of Bonham, TX numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Charles McCarter of Bonham and his sister Edna Moody of Van Alstyne, TX.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted caregivers Nancy and Dorian Ball, and his good friend Mike Abernethy, all of Kerrville. Also childhood friends Bill Eaton of Dodd City, TX, Jack Phillips of Ravenna, TX, and Ray Frank Ridings of Sherman, TX.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday, January 1, 2010 from 46 PM at Wise
Funeral Home in Bonham, TX.

The service will be at 10 AM on Saturday, January 2nd, at Wise Funeral Home. Committal services will be held at Ravenna Cemetary, Ravenna, TX.

Pallbearers are Matt, Jake and Craig McCarter, Chris Johnson, and Jerry, Charlie and Rex Moody.
