James Hoy "Jim" Donaldson, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in Kerrville, Texas.
Jim was born in Bessemer, Alabama to Hoy and Druecilla Donaldson on January 14, 1929. He attended school in Bessemer, Alabama his early years and graduated from San Benito High School in San Benito, Texas following the families move there. He spent 40 years working for HEB groceries in the Rio Grande Valley, and retired in 1979. After retiring, Jim and Genita moved to Kerrville where he worked for Super S and Mini Mart markets. Jim was a master woodworker and enjoyed making beautiful furniture, clocks, and other items for family and friends. In addition, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and playing "forty two" with friends. Jim was a member of the Church of Christ.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Beshears; and brother-in-law, Dwight Stockton.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Genita Elizabeth Locke Donaldson; son, David Donaldson; sister, Helen Stockton; grandchildren, Stephanie Paul and husband Josh, Emily Donaldson and husband Cody, Matthew Donaldson and wife Mariah; brother-in-law Bob Russell and wife Joann; and numerous nieces and nephews. Close friends of 50+ years include June Waters, Jolene Rhodes, Bobbie Waters, Joan Pawkatt, Beverly Barke and many other close friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5-7:00 PM, Friday at Kerrville Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Sunny Glen Children's Home in San Benito, Texas.
