James B. (Jim) Curlis, 89 of Kerrville, TX passed away on September 6, 2022 after a short illness. He was born on August 24 1933, son of the late Wayne L and Rita Faye (West) Curlis in Cherryvale, KS. He graduated Barstow (CA) High School in 1952, served in the US Navy from 1952-1956, joined the US Coast Guard in 1964, and retired after 22 years of service in 1986 as a Chief Warrant Officer IV.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy, of Kerrville, TX, daughters Rene' Cooper (MD), Christi Johnston (VA), Kari McEuin (TX), son, James B. Curlis Jr. (NC), as well as 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and sister, Elaine M. Reed (KS). He was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Lundquist.
Jim was a Master Mason, serving as Worshipful Master of Kerrville Lodge #697, District Deputy Grand Master, District 51, Texas, and Worthy Patron (OES), Chapter 24.
Jim understood his purpose was the next generation, and so his focus was youth and was actively involved in Demolay International, International Order of Job's Daughters, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Boy Scouts of America and several Church Youth groups.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2PM on October 15, 2022 at the Kerrville Funeral Home
We will have a short memorial service, followed by time for sharing your personal stories of Jim at Kerrville First Presbyterian Church, 800 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, TX.
In lieu of flowers, Jim would prefer donations be made to either the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, or Patriot Paws.
