James Cotter


Fort Stockton James William Cotter passed away Saturday January 1, 2011 in Ft Stockton, TX at the age of 94.

James Cotter was born to William Cotter and Frances Eulalia Stroud Cotter on April 18, 1916 in Alpine, TX.

He attended school in Alpine and attended Sul Ross State University. His education was interrupted by World War II. At that time James enlisted and served in the United States Army. After the war he returned to the university to complete his education.

He worked for the National Park Service for many years. He then returned to school to get his teacher certificate. James taught in the Texas, Colorado and California public school systems for over twenty five years.

James is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife Lydia Hutton Cotter of Comfort. He is also survived by his son James William Bill Cotter of Mason and his daughter Aimee Twohig of Lebanon, TN. James is also survived by his stepchildren Lilly Hutton and Anna Delgado of Comfort, Roberto Hutton and Aurora Gonzales of Los Fresnos and Rebecca Hutton of Kerrville. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

ation will be from 6:008:00PM on Wednesday January 5th at Kerrville Funeral Home in Kerrville.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00AM Thursday January 6th at Kerrville Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Friday January 7th at 10:30 AM.
