KERRVILLE - Jack Royce Cook, 79, passed from this life to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the Edgewater Care Center in Kerrville, Texas. Jack was born on November 25, 1935 in Dublin, Texas to the late A.B. and Edna May (Lowery) Cook.
Growing up in Dublin, Texas, Jack attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas and then transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Education. After a brief 2 years of teaching in his home town of Dublin, Jack attended Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas where he earned his Master of Science degree.
Jack married the love of his life, Karolyn Joy Reynolds in December of 1959, and they remained a loving couple up until his time of passing. Together they raised two sons, John, born in 1961 and Danny, born in 1963. The family lived and made their home in Red Oak, Texas where Jack spent almost his entire teaching career. They moved to Kerrville, Texas upon his retirement from education after 34 years. Upon retirement in the Hill Country, Jack embarked upon another journey that would be a rewarding endeavor. He became volunteer chaplain at Peterson Hospital working alongside Rev. Frankie Enloe. He then became an ordained minister and had a ministry at the State Park, and for almost 10 years he served as a Chaplain with Vista Care Hospice.
Jack and Karolyn have been faithful members of Southern Oaks Baptist Church for many years. Jack loved the Lord and has had a personal relationship with Jesus, he was at peace and ready to go home to be with Him.
Those who passed before Jack were his loving parents; his son, Danny Cook; in-laws, A.W. and Edna Reynolds; brother, Durl Cook; sisters, Bonnie Wyrick and Reba Barnard; and his granddaughter, Jessica Cook.
Those left to honor his memory are his loving wife, Karolyn Joy Cook; son, John Cook and wife Donna; grandsons, William Jackson Cook and Josh Cook; sister-in-law, Peggy Reynolds, along with many friends and neighbors, church family who will miss him dearly.
A Visitation and a time of reflection will be from 5 - 7 PM, Friday, September 4, 2015, at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, September 5, 2015, in the sanctuary of Southern Oaks Baptist Church, 122 Valley View Drive, Kerrville, Texas 78028 with the Rev. Frankie Enloe officiating.
Interment will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Red Oak Cemetery, Red Oak, Texas.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family has expressed a desire for memorial contributions to be made in his honor to the Southern Oaks Baptist Church,
