Irwin Tex Ewing of Kerrville, Texas passed from this world on the 19th December, 2012 of natural causes while undergoing hospital treatment in Houston, Texas.
Irwin Tex Ewing was born August 16, 1925 in Cleburne, Texas the son of Alex Smith and Velma Ewing. He grew up in Ft. Worth, remaining here in Texas until he enlisted in the Navy in 1943 it was while he was in service to his country that he acquired the nickname Tex that he would carry till his passing. He met his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Patricia Ewing while stationed in Massachusetts, and they married, following his discharge on June 6, 1946 in New Haven, Connecticut. Tex and Evelyn returned thereafter to Texas.
Soon after returning to Texas, Tex joined the U.S. Border Patrol and became a pilot. With the exception of a brief tour in Philadelphia, Pa. he served the U.S.B.P. in Texas until his retirement in 1977. Following his retirement he joined and remained a member of the Fraternal Order for Retired Border Patrol Officers.
Irwin Tex is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Lenora A. Coleman and Velma A. Snyder his brother Alexander S. Ewing Jr. Also his eldest son Irwin Cooke Ewing II.
He is survived by his Wife Evelyn of Kerrville, TX, his sons, Don Gary Ewing, his wife Deannine, of Benton, AR Thomas Lee Ewing, his wife Rebecca, of Houston, TX, his daughterinlaw Sylvia Ewing widow of Irwin of El Paso, TX his grandchildren Chris and wife Nona Ewing, John and wife Tammy Ewing, Scott Ewing, Eric and wife April Ewing, Jake and wife Callie Ewing, Jeremy and wife Kristen Ewing, Kate and husband Chris Scaife, Denise Ewing, Dawn and husband Drew Simmons, Larissa and husband Chris Glover, Kristen Ewing, his great grandchildren Megan Ewing, Chelsea Ewing, Brittany Ewing, Jennie Ewing, J.D. Ewing, Clark Ewing, Rebecca Ewing, and Mary Ewing. He is also survived by a sisterinlaw, many nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.
Tex was a long time supporter of St. Judes Childrens Hospital and would have appreciated any donations made to this charity in lieu of flowers.
A visitation will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Thursday, December 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home starting at 10:00 a.m. Friday the 28th of December with interment immediately following in Kerrville at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
