Imogene Wright Raymer, 88 of Ingram, Texas passed from this life on Friday, March 15, 2019 with her husband and children by her side.
Imogene was born in Houston, Texas on December 1, 1930. She was raised in Houston and graduated from Charles H. Milby High School where she was class valedictorian. She attended William Marsh Rice University, majoring in English, and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
On August 11, 1953 Imogene married her high school sweetheart and fellow Rice University student Lewis Lunn Raymer, Jr. For a brief period she worked as a public school teacher, teaching English at James S. Deady Junior High School while Lewis made up for time lost while serving in the Korean War and completed his own Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees.
With the birth of her first child, Imogene resigned from her position as a teacher and began her true vocation as a full-time wife, mother, and homemaker. For the next 30 years she supported her husband, Lewis in his career, as the family made moves to New Fairfield, Connecticut; Caracas, Venezuela; Midland, Texas; and Ridgefield, Connecticut, each time returning to Houston, Texas which she thought of as home. During these years of relocations, in addition to raising her own children, Imogene was active in many child related functions including Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher, school library volunteer, and nursery school teacher at the various stops along the way.
In her empty nest and retirement years her passion was travelling to visit her three children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. With her husband, she organized a vacation get-away each year for the entire extended family. This was a highlight of each year for everyone. Outside her family, she enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, especially a weekly meeting with the other ladies at the former Inwood Forest Country Club in Houston.
Imogene is preceded in death by her parents, John Garrison Wright and Erma Frazier Wright, and sister Erma Nan Mitchell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Lewis, daughter, Judith DeLuca of Gainesville, Virginia, and sons, Lewis Garrison of Tabernacle, New Jersey, and Kris Andrew of Maple Shade, New Jersey, and numerous other relatives.
