Kerrville Henry H. Hank Johnston, 86, of Kerrville, TX, passed away, on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at a local hospital. Hank was born on August 26, 1926 to Frank and Lydia Johnston in Jackson County, WI. He was the sixth of eight children and was raised by his widowed mother, in Fairchild, WI, where he attended school as well.
After finishing his education, Hank immediately enlisted and served in the United States Navy in the final months of WWII . He was very proud to have been a member of the inaugural crew of an aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer.
Hank was the father of three sons and the Dad of two daughters and two additional sons. He married Sonna Slack in October of 2008. They enjoyed traveling, jigsaw puzzling, playing cards and most of all, each others company. Hank was known for his sense of humor, his love and caring attitude for family and friendsand everyone was his friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lydia Johnston his sons, Patrick and Tony and his sister, Mabel.
Hank is survived by his wife, Sonna Johnston son, Danny Johnston additional children, James Slack, Lynda Seaman, Norton Freeland and Marty Shepard thirteen grandchildren and so many greatgrandchildren that the family has been unable to come up with an accurate count his siblings, Mickey of Pennsylvania, Zelma, Alyce, Lilas and Franklin all of Wisconsin, and Larry of California.
A Celebration of Life service will be 4:30 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 134 Camp Meeting Rd, Kerrville, TX, 78028.
