KerrvilleHazel Vern Jennings passed away quietly Monday, February 5, 2011 at the age of 98, in Kerrville.
She was born October 2, 1912 to Cleveland and Covella Moore in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The family moved to Drumright, Oklahoma when Hazel was a teenager where she met and married Meritt Jennings, a marriage that lasted for an astonishing 79 years.
Most of her life was spent in Bartlesville and Norman, OK. In Bartlesville, she raised her daughter and was an active member of the Church and other volunteer organizations. Her first retirement was in Norman. She went there to help take care of her mother, but became actively involved in the community again. Her last move was to Kerrville in 1993.
During the war she worked at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds making her own contribution to the war effort. She was a person that loved other people and had many wonderful friends but her outstanding characteristic was being a great listener. Many people, even strangers, would share their innermost secrets with her.
Before her passing, she shared with many that she lived the perfect life. She did the things she wanted to do and was surrounded by people she loved and that loved her. Even at a very early age, Hazel was not afraid to try something new and ventured out to explore new territories. She did not like being idle, and felt as though she could always lend a helping hand. She truly lived each day to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Meritt Jennings and two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwynn GroggelJackson and husband Jack Jackson of Kerrville grandson, Scott Free and wife Loree great grandchildren Niles and Lila of Albuquerque, NM granddaughter, Michelle Prengle and husband Scott and great grandson Bob, of Dallas and grandson, Mike Menand of Atlanta, GA and two brothers, CF Moore of Norman, OK., and Ted Moore of West Bend, WI and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Hazel Jennings will be held later in the spring.
The family wishes to thank Peterson Hospice and Alpine Terrace Nursing staff for their dedicated and attentive care given to their mother.
The family request that donations be made to Peterson Hospice, Riverside Nature Center, or the charity of their choice.
