Harold L. Walsleben, 76, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home after a courageous battle against cancer on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.
Harold was born October 11, 1937 in Valley Mills, TX to Albert and Pauline Gloff Walsleben. He graduated from Valley Mills High School in 1956. He was then stationed in San Diego with the US Navy. Upon returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Melba Petzold, on October 9, 1959, and graduated from Baylor University in 1967. Harold worked as a C.P.A. in the savings and loan industry in Waco and Uvalde before moving to Kerrville in 1981. He loved his work and only recently retired in April of 2013.
Harold was very active in the community and loved by many. He was a member of FUMC Kerrville, where he loved singing in the choir, and served on numerous committees for the church as well as the board of Childrens Ark Day School. He was also a proud member of the Kerrville Host Lions Club, recently being honored as Lion of the Year and recognized as a Fellow for outstanding contributions of service by the Texas Lions Foundation. Harold volunteered as a mentor at Tom Daniels Elementary for 20 years. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time with his family, especially his twin granddaughters.
Harold is survived by his three children: a son, Brent Walsleben and his partner Eric Thompson of Tomball, TX, a daughter, Donna Walsleben of Dallas, TX, and daughter Blair Walsleben Crane and her husband Rob of Dallas, TX two granddaughters, Sophia and Hannah Crane, his brother, David Walsleben and wife Betty, his sisters, Aileen Tibbs and Linda Garten, several nieces and nephews and too many friends to count. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Pauline, and his loving wife Melba, who has been waiting patiently to see him since 2008.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 5 at First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Drive, Kerrville, Reverend Bob Allen and Reverend Donna Magee will be officiating. ation will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the Childrens Ark at FUMC Kerrville or the Harold Walsleben scholarship in care of the Kerrville Host Lions Club.
