Kerrville Harold J. quotHalquot Barton, 82, of Kerrville passed from this life at a local hospital on Wednesday, February 24, 2010.
Born in Ottumwa, Iowa on April 22, 1927, he was the son of Harold Harris and Edith Nye Barton. Hal had lived in Kerrville for several years. He graduated from Evergreen College, Olympia, WA, Class, of 1984.
On March 14, 1973, he married Mildred Hawbaker in Granite City, IL.
He served in the USMC for 6 12 years and then served 20 years in the US Army.
Hal enjoyed volunteer work, serving on the Red Cross Disaster Relief for 12 years, where the Red Cross National Headquarters would call and ask for him by name, and he would travel all over the USA and Saipan. He also volunteered with the Sierra Vista, AZ Chamber of Commerce for 5 years, the Kerrville Chamber of Commerce for 3 years, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Olympia WA for 2 12 years, and Meals on Wheels in Kerrville for 1 12 years.
In his retirement, he was also a travel agent and tour or to numerous locations around the world.
He was a member of MOAA, for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Michael and a brother, Jack.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred H. Barton his sons, John, Craig and Douglas his stepchildren, Rhonda Schweinhold and David Laird 5 grandchildren his brother, Bruce Barton his sister, Nancy Schalles 2 nieces and 4 nephews.
There will be no visitation.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 10:00AM Kerrville Funeral Home Main Chapel. Inurnment follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45PM.
The family suggests that donations in Hals name be made to the Dietert Center Meals on Wheels Program, 451 Guadalupe St, Kerrville, TX 78028.
