Gwynn Groggel

Gwynn Ann Groggel, a resident of Kerrville, passed away Monday May 16, 2016 at 70 years of age.

Born August 14, 1945, in Bristow, Oklahoma, Gwynn was a graduate of the University of Kansas and a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She spent her entire career working for IBM in various technical and managerial capacities. She gave back to the community through her participation in the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the ''I Have a Dream'' Foundation.

Gwynn was an early riser, awakening with the birds, a song in her heart, and happy to take on the day. One of her passions was the practice of Yoga, which led her to earn her instructor certification and later become the co-founder and co-owner of The Yoga Space in Kerrville. She always had a love of the performing arts, ballet and symphony orchestra, both in Dallas and Kerrville, and continued to support the community through her patronage. While a Dallas resident, Gwynn was involved in the early establishment of the Dallas Arboretum. After moving to Kerrville she continued this interest in gardening and the outdoors through her association with the Riverside Nature Center. She was the founding commander of the Kerrville Civil Air Patrol unit, a pursuit she shared with her husband Jack Jackson. She loved to travel, was an avid bridge player, book club participant, and enjoyed horseback riding at Tierra Linda Ranch. Gwynn had a boundless energy that enabled her to stay active and busy throughout her life.

She is preceded in death by her father, Merritt Edward Jennings and mother, Hazel Vern Jennings. She is survived by children, Scott Free of Albuquerque, Michael Menand of Atlanta, and Michelle and son-in-law Scott Prengle of Dallas; grandchildren, Niles and Lila Free of Albuquerque and Bobby Prengle of Dallas; sister-in-law Kathy and husband Jay Hoyle of Houston; nephew, Heath and wife Farrah Jenkins of Pensacola; niece, Sarah and husband Kason Kerr of Houston; and nephew Ryan and wife Kelsi Hoyle of San Antonio; as well as uncle C. F. and aunt Nelwyn Moore of Norman, and many cousins throughout the United States.

A remembrance service for Gwynn will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 10:00am at Rails Event Hall, Kerrville.
