Gwendolyn Carroll

Gwendolyn Nelson Radicke Carroll, 87, of Kerrville, TX passed from this life on December 17, 2016 in Kerrville. She was born in Newfolden, Minnesota on June 21, 1929 to Hilda and Victor Nelson.

Gwen came to Texas when she was 7 months old and lived in Pettus and Tulseta ,TX until her family moved to San Antonio in 1942, when she was in Junior High. She attended and graduated from Brakenridge High School, in San Antonio. Gwen worked for Arthur Veltman and the Bexar County Court House in San Antonio until she married Nick Carroll and they moved to Taft Texas. She came to Kerrville in 1972, where she worked at the Veterans Hospital and provided patient care to all. Gwen even provided a place to stay for long term VA patients, and their family members.

Gwen loved to volunteer at the Kerrville Human Society Thrift Store on Junction Highway. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, cruising, driving and gambling across the United States, playing jokes, dominoes, cards and gardening. Gwen was passionate about delivering Meal on Wheels and sitting with and caring for the elderly, many that were much younger than her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hilda and Victor Nelson; her husband, Nick Carroll; son, Harold E. Radicke; brothers, Randall, Peewee, Preacher, Jimmie and Donnie Nelson; sisters, Viola Huff, Merece Slaughter and Thelma Lewis.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her children, Martha Radicke Munn and husband Kenny and Molly Cockrell and husband Frank; grandchildren, Michael Walker, Jacklyn Munn, Bubba and Ryan Cockrell; great- grandchildren, Colt and James Cockrell and John Radicke and sisters, Lois Danforth, Helen Bravenec and Sylvia Harlan

Special thanks to all of Gwen's devoted friends who visited her, she knew she was very loved and to Sid Peterson Hospice and Hilltop Nursing.

Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Kathleen C. Cailloux Humane Society at 2900 Junction Highway, Kerrville, TX 78028.

A Memorial Service will be held 12PM Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Kerrville Funeral Home ,1221 Junction Hwy, Kerrville, TX 78028.
