SAN ANTONIO Gordon A. Raatz passed away quietly January 24, 2013 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX after sustaining a broken leg and a long battle with cancer.
Gordon was born in Verona, North Dakota, December 28, 1923 to Alfred and Goldie Raatz. Gordon served in the Navy during WWII and came to San Antonio in 1947 where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Betty Dean Raatz. They were married 64 years ago in 1948 and have two sons, Gordon A. Crocket and David Allen Raatz.
They moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1969 where Gordon became a Teamster and worked on the North Slope and later in Anchorage retiring from Sunrise Bakery. From there, he and Betty traveled the United States and then settled in Kerrville, Texas.
Gordon was an active member of the local Lions Club and enjoyed helping out his fellow neighbors however he could. Gordon loved sitting out on his front stoop waving and talking with all the neighbors going by.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Goldie Raatz and his brother, Marvin Raatz.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Raatz son, Gordon Crocket, daughterinlaw Christin Crocket, and 3 grandchildren, Branden, Brentin, and Alexandra Crocket in Florida son, David Raatz and daughterinlaw, Valerie Raatz in Alaska his brother, Larry and sisterinlaw Edith Raatz sisterinlaw, Alice Raatz in North Dakota and numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gordon Raatz was a kind and honest man and forever loved in so many hearts. His family would like to take this time to thank all of his neighbors for helping out Betty and Gordon these past few years.
His wishes were that no service be held. Gordon will be cremated, and his ashes taken to rest with his parents in Oakes, North Dakota at a later date.
Memorials in Gordans name can be forwarded to the charity of ones choice.
