KERRVILLE Mr. Glen Wendell Doyen 93 passed from this life on November 3, 2012 in Kerrville Texas. He was born on February 5, 1919 in Ovid, Michigan to Glen Anson Doyen and Amy Belle Adams Doyen

He would grow up to graduate from St. Johns High School and then served his country in the U S Army Air Corps ultimately the USAF. He flew a C47 in the South Pacific in New Guinea during World War II. While on RR from the military, Glen visited Kerrville, where he met Miss Mary Margaret Hall. On May 7, 1944, the two were married at Trinity Methodist Church in San Antonio, TX, beginning their 68 years of married life together.

Following the war, Mr. Doyen continued to serve in the USAF Reserves and retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He worked at the VA Hospital in Kerrville for 30 years following his active duty. Mr. Doyen was active at First United Methodist Church of Kerrville, where he taught Sunday school for 14 years. He was also active with the Boy Scouts of America, chairing the Pine Wood Derby for many years and traveling with his son Rob to the annual National Boy Scout Jamboree. Mr. Doyen received the Silver Beaver Award, an honor reserved for the most respected Scout leaders. He was also an active member of the Lions Club.

Mr. Doyen volunteered for Hospice and the Kerrville Tourist Bureau. He and Mary Margaret enjoyed trips in their RV, traveled overseas, and dancing with the German Club and Western Club for many years. He also enjoyed researching and studying Kerrville history.

Mr. Doyen is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers Merlin and Perry, and by his sister Francis.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Margaret his son, Rob Doyen and wife Louise his daughter, Shirley McClure and husband Ed grandchildren, Kim Meadows and husband Jerald, Jason Doyen and wife Lynley, Robbie Doyen, Michele McClure Higginbotham and husband Keith greatgrandchildren, Hailey, Hayden, and Sydney Higginbotham, Dominic and Heidi Meadows, and Jeremiah Doyen, along with many loving friends and neighbors.

Graveside Services with full military honors will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday November 6, 2012 at Glen Rest Cemetery in Kerrville, TX.

In lieu of floral tributes, the family asks that you forward memorials to the Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 2226 NW Military Drive, San Antonio, TX 78213.
