Kerrville Gladys Maurine Kline, age 89, entered into eternal rest on May 13, 2011.
She was born on January 12, 1922, in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of Denard and Lucy Mercer.
Gladys attended Salem schools through the 6th grade and moved with her family to Kinmundy where she remained until graduating from high school with the class of 19. After graduation, she was employed with Brown Shoe Company in Salem and then attended Central Beauty School in Alton, Illinois. She became the coowner with her sister of the GladDel Beauty Shop on South Lincoln Street in Salem and worked there until the end of World War II.
On January 12, 1946, she married Charles B. Kline, who was employed by The Texas Company as an accountant. They made their home in Farina and Kinmundy with their two daughters until 1972 when they moved with Texaco to Tulsa, Oklahoma. After the death of her husband in 1982, Gladys remained in Tulsa until returning to Salem in 2001 where she resided at Bob White Apartments. In 2006, she moved to Kerrville, Texas,
Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles, and two sisters, Dorothy McCulley and Verma Del Helm,
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Karen Lydick and husband, Keith, of the Woodlands, Texas, her daughter, Cathy Krutsinger and husband, Norman, of Kerrville, Texas four grandchildren, Curtis Krutsinger and wife, Robyn, of Morrilton, Arkansas, Kreg Lydick, of Dallas, Texas, Shelby Balser and husband, Ryan, of Kerrville, Texas, and Kimberly Carter and husband, Paul, of Austin, Texas and eight great grandchildren.
Other survivors include a sister, Ann See, of Alma, Illinois a brother, Max Mercer, of Salem, Illinois along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of many loving friends and neighbors.
Gladys was a loving mother and grandmother, a friendly person who always showed an interest in others and who treasured her many friendships. She was an active member of the Kinmundy Christian Church and faithfully attended Town and Country Christian Church in Tulsa.
A visitation will be held at Neal Funeral Home in Kinmundy, Illinois, from 6 8 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at Kinmundy Christian Church at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy.
