George Clark, Sr.


George J. Clark, Sr. passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at the VA Hospital in Kerrville after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Lakeville, CT on February 12, 1928 to Joseph Clark and Margaret Carney Clark. He grew up in Lakeville along with his older 12 siblings.George retired from Princeton University where he was Administrator of Grounds and Maintenance for 17 years, designing some of Princetons prestigious gardens. Horticulture was his first love and remained so. He was a Military Police veteran of World War II and Korea. George was an avid golfer and pool player. He was a gentle man, always ready to help others, always with a quip of some sort. George was preceded in death by his parents and numerous siblings as well as his first wife Constance Bailey Clark in 1982. George is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Barbara RiceClark his stepson John Rice and wife Gigi Sommerset Rice.George and Barbara moved to Kerrville in March 1999 and loved the Hill Country.The family would like to thank Dr. Michael martin and the staff of the Kerrville VA Hospital for their personal loving care that was provided George in his final days Dr. David Winkler for his caring ways, and the special people who have prayed for us and helped in so many ways during these past 18 months. God bless you all.In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the recreation department of the VA Hospital of Kerrville, or Sid Peterson Hospice.A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
