Frederick Joseph Holland, Jr., 92, of Houston, formerly of Kerrville, entered into rest August 18, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Holland was born June 12, 1912 in Waterville, Maine to Frederick and Delvina Holland. He served his country in Air Service Command in India, and received a bronze star for developing the first airplane loader. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, he returned home, and on February 2, 1946, he married Edna McMillan, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA. He continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was a member of the M.O.A. He worked for REA Express in management for years, and lived in many parts of the country. He retired to Kerrville in 1975 and became the first nonnative County Commissioner of Kerr County in 1980. He was President of the local chapter of the Retired Military Officers Association, and later was President of the local chapter of the China, Burma, India Veterans Association. While in Kerrville he wrote guest columns for the Kerrville Daily Times. In 2003 he and his wife Edna moved to Houston to be close to family. He is survived by his wife Edna Holland two sons, Geoffrey Holland and his wife PingPing of North Hollywood, CA, and F. Jay Holland and his wife Jeannine of Houston, TX daughter, Jill Johnson and husband Conrad of Katy, TX sister, Madeline Mann of Lisbon, ME six grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 2:00PM, August 28, 2004 at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Hornung officiating. Private interment will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
