Freddie Slauter

Kerrville Freddie B. Slauter, 101, passed from this life into the loving arms of her Lord on May 26, 2009. There will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, TX.

Freddie was born on September 21, 1907 in Palestine, TX to Edward Addie Bentley. After both her parents died at an early age she was adopted by William F. Bruce, Sr. and Lillie Bruce. She also gained two brothers, William F. quotFredquot Bruce, Jr. and Robert Bruce. In 1927 Freddie graduated from Kansas City Nursing School with her Registered Nursing Degree. She met and soon married Charles R. quotCharliequot Slauter on January 5, 1929. Charlies family ran a Dairy in Waco so she moved there and started a new chapter of her life. Charlie ran the dairy and Freddie did private duty nursing until they were blessed with two sons. Their oldest son was Charles R. quotChuckquot Slauter, and his brother is William F. quotBillquot Slauter. Those early years were spent raising the boys, and keeping house. Freddie did a lot of canning and was quite a good cook. She made a German Chocolate Cake from scratch that was absolutely heavenly. She was also an accomplished seamstress, and did sewing for everyone in the family, including making all of her own clothes. Freddie was an independent woman and never quit growing and learning. She even tried her hand at carpentry by building some tables and cabinets. If she wanted to do something, she just did it. She was active in the Episcopal Church and helped with numerous charitable causes. Freddie loved to sing and dance, and regularly entertained her friends at Hilltop Village Nursing Home.

In her 101 years on this earth Freddie made many beautiful memories. Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Chuck of Kerrville, Bill and wife Dee of Hurst six grandchildren Pat Cantwell of Fredericksburg, Liz Veselka of Kerrville,
Mike Slauter and wife Allyn of Center Point, Pam and husband Mike Grisham of Burleson, Tiffany Slauter of Bedford, Lane and wife Joanna Slauter of Austin, six greatgrandchildren Jeremy Cantwell, Melanie Bopp and husband Chris, Cody Veselka, Dalton and Alex Grisham, Gather Slauter, two greatgreat granddaughters Marissa and Lauren Bopp. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her daughterinlaw, Sophie Slauter, her parents, adoptive parents, and brothers.
