Fred Ethan Wells, Sr., 95, died on August 2, 2015 at Peterson Regional Medical Center. The family appreciates the wonderful care he received there.
Fred was born July 14, 1920 in Louisville, Kentucky to Lt. Col. Ethan Wells and Florence McDonald Wells. He graduated from Balboa High School and attended the Canal Zone Junior College for one year in Balboa. He was employed by the Panama Canal Company for 37 years as a Traffic Manager. It was Fred and his co-worker's responsibility to get Canal Zone employees off on their vacations and official business. He enjoyed his work and his children felt he owned the three ships maintained by the Panama Line.
Fred served in the United States Marine Corps in WWII, lived 20 years in a military post and was military clear through.
He was married to Marion Orr on April 27, 1945. They had three children, Fred E. Wells, Jr. of Perth, Australia, Alan H. Wells of Deluth, Georgia, and Mary Linda Fealey, who preceded him in death. Their spouses are Patricia Summerfield, Kathy Jane Wells, and Guy M. Fealey. Other family members include, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, their spouses; and 6 great-granddaughters; one brother, Russel E. Wells and his wife Polly and 5 nieces and nephews. Fred loved his children, many relatives and friends dearly.
Fred was a gun lover and was known as Mr. Gun Club for his many years as secretary of the Balboa Gun Club. In Kerrville, he served as treasurer of the Buck and Bull Club for several years. He was an active shooter. Fred was extremely happy with the choice of Kerrville for his retirement. He grew weary of retirement and went to work as a guard for Schreiner University for 18 years, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Fred and Marion lived in Greenwood Forest for 38 years. He enjoyed his Texas friends, and had a large group of friends who settled here after retiring from the Canal Zone.
Interment will be in Oak Harbor, Washington with his daughter, Mary Linda and his granddaughter, Jamie Fealey. No local services will be held.
