Frank Thoensen

Frank Carl Thoensen, 92, passed from this life peacefully in Kerrville Texas on April 25, 2021.

Frank was born on October 1, 1928 in Davenport, Iowa to Mildred (Vogt) Thoensen and Herman Thoensen. He graduated from Saint Ambrose University in Davenport with a degree in Fine Arts in 1951.

Frank married Phyllis Ann Hoffman in Davenport, Iowa in June of 1951.  Phyllis passed away in November of 1958.  Frank subsequently moved to Chicago where he met and married Ruth Grenchik on March 11, 1961 in Whiting, Indiana.  Frank and Ruth were happily married for 53 years until her passing in May of 2014. Frank and Ruth lived in Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, New Orleans, and the Houston area before settling in Kerrville in 1999.  Frank spent most of his career in various sales and marketing positions with the H. J. Heinz company.

Frank had a great appreciation for art, especially southwestern Native American artwork, and he enjoyed reading about art, history and politics.  He could be counted on to enthusiastically express his opinion on almost any subject.

Frank is survived by cousins Ron (Colleen) Thoensen of Lincoln California, Bob (Patricia) Thoensen of Nehalem Oregon, Carl Thoensen of Irvine, California and Sandra Berman of Las Vegas Nevada; nephew Jack (Cheryl) Toth of Benicia California, niece Linda (Mark) Kalwinski of Hammond Indiana, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

At Frank’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held, but a memorial gathering will be held for friends and family on Saturday, May 15 from 2:00-4:00pm at the Vicksburg Homeowner’s Association clubhouse, 300 Vicksburg Ave., Kerrville, TX.
