Floyd Hancock Jr.

KERRVILLE - Floyd Hancock Jr., 78,

Floyd went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 11, 2016 at Peterson Regional Medical Center, Kerrville, Texas. His life was a testimony to his faith, which was demonstrated best by his favorite Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." NKJV Faith and family were his greatest joys in life.

Floyd was born in Shidler, OK and grew up in Wright City, TX and Cushing, OK before attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. He met the love of his life, Jo Alice Blanton while at Tech, and they were married in Houston in 1963. They lived in Lubbock while Floyd finished his undergraduate degree in accounting and postgraduate courses in computer science. After the birth of their son in 1966 they moved to Houston where Floyd began his 25-year career with Shell Oil Company. Their daughter was born in 1969, completing their family. Floyd's years in Houston also included obtaining his CPA certificate, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, RA leader, and basketball coach in their church. He and Jo served as Mission Service Corps volunteers for Union Baptist Association and Star of Hope Women and Family Shelter. After Floyd retired in 1991, they moved to Colleyville, TX where he began his private CPA practice with Jo as his assistant. There he served their church as a deacon and continued as an MSC volunteer with Tarrant Baptist Association. Floyd and Jo fulfilled a dream in 2003 of building their own home in Ruidoso, NM. While there he served as a deacon and as a volunteer at the Mescalero Apache Baptist Mission. Floyd also became a Gideon while in Ruidoso. Health issues prompted a move to Kerrville in 2013.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, and his son, Floyd "Trey" Hancock III. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Jo, daughter Melinda Beall, daughter-in-law Amy Hancock, much-loved grandchildren Joshua Hancock, Katie Hancock, Miles Beall; brother Dean Hancock and wife Barbara, sister Jean Pannell and husband Hershell and numerous nieces and nephews. All who knew Floyd and welcome to attend the celebration of his life at Kerrville Funeral Home on Monday, March 14 at 11:00 with Pastor John Wheat of Trinity Baptist officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Heart Association or the charity/organization of one's choice.
