Kerrville Evelyn M. Markwardt Lea, 80, passed away following surgery at a local hospital in Kerrville, Texas on Thursday, January 18, 2007. Evelyn was born on March 31, 1926 in Neillsville, WI., daughter of Henry and Fanny Markwardt.Evelyn attended the Neillsville Schools and later graduated from Central State Teachers College UW Steven Point in 1948. She was married to her classmate, Keith F. Lea on June 20, 1948. They lived in Escanaba, MI for 12 years and then returned to Whiting, WI. She taught at McDill School for many years, mostly in the fifth grade.After retirement, Evelyn and her husband moved to Plover, WI., spending the winter months in Kerrville, TX, eventually making Kerrville their second home. During their retirement, they enjoyed traveling to the British Isles, Europe, and most of the United States. She was a member of Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church and had served on their Board of Deacons. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, volunteering with Special Olympics, The American Red Cross, and last but not least, the Noon Lions Club activities. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Keith F. Lea of Kerrville, TX son Mark K. Lea of Lake Mills, WI. daughter, Marsha Ann Lea Morrison of Washington, D.C. three grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, nieces, nephews, and a host of many loving friends and neighbors.A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.In lieu of floral arrangements, the family suggests memorials be sent in her name to the UWStevens Point Foundation for scholarships in the Education Department.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
