KERRVILLE Evelyn Old Latimer, long time resident of Ft. Worth passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Kerrville, Texas.
Evelyn was born in the piney woods of North East Texas in Daingerfield, Morris County. She was born at home on land that had been in the family since 1808 and, like many of her generation who grew up on the farm or in rural America she learned to value family, country, hard work, and love of God.
Evelyn moved to Ft. Worth in 1940 to attend TCU and she remained a diehard Killer Frog all her life. After WWII she remained in Ft. Worth and gave birth to her only child, Claudia Sullivan, who survives her. She began working for Amusement Enterprises later RJL Concessions in 1963 and worked for that family business until her late 80s. She moved to Kerrville to live with her daughter in 2009. A lifelong Methodist, she was welcomed by the Notre Dame Catholic Church and that became her church family until her death.
Evelyn was friendly, energetic, opinionated, feisty, loving and generous. She believed in hard work, the Democratic Party, one dirty martini at the end of the day, family, paying your own way, and America.
Evelyn is survived by her sister, Maurine Germeraad of Sedona, Arizona, Nancy Birnbaum and her family of Missoula, Montana, Bryant Nail and his family of Dallas, Roy Jordan Nail and his family of Daingerfield, and long time friend and business associate Jack Lynch and his family of Ft. Worth.
The family and friends of Evelyn are grateful for the loving care provided by the nurses and staff of Plaza On the River Nursing Center especially Tracy, Betsy, Monica, and Molly. Peterson Hospice was most attentive at the end of her life.
Although Evelyn loved flowers and gardening the family asks that you honor her with donations to Schreiner University, St. Peter Upon the Water in Ingram, Texas, by adopting an shelter dog or cat, or by planting a rose bush.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville, Texas on Wednesday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Monsignor Michael Boulette. Interment will be at a later time.
